Still high on paint fumes from a little home improvement project, I decide to start with a painting theme this week, starring my favorite rock-n-roll house painter Terry Anderson. New music this week from the Girls at Dawn, Ty Segall and Elizabeth Cook and a focus on several new Ace and Kent compilations in the last hour.

Playlists for 5-14-10 and 5-21-10: Pledge Drive Two-fer

I went home to Virginia last weekend, so I'm a little behind on the playlist posting. Here's the last two, which are from WMSE's spring pledge drive. Listeners pledged more than $90,000 so far - thank you, thank you, thank you. WMSE still needs about $15,000 to make its goal of $105,000, so it's not too late to pledge. New releases over the last two weeks include The Ding Dongs, Andre Williams, Mondo Topless, Sadies, Hoodoo Gurus and more.

Playlist for 5-7-10: The One Where Good John is a Hard Act to Follow

I had an important appointment (no comment at this time!) this week before the show, so my friend Good John sat in for me for most of the first hour and did a fine job indeed. Lots of new music this week, including Delaney Davidson, SwampMeat, Goodnight Loving's new 7" on Dirtnap Records, the New Heathens and the Titty Twisters Orchestra. Get out your pocketbooks once more for this Friday's show - WMSE's Spring Pledge Drive is happening through May 21. I'll try to provide the perfect soundtrack in exchange for your much-needed donations.

Playlist for 4/30/2010: Get Hip

Pittsburgh's legendary Get Hip Records got the I Love My Label treatment on the show Friday. It was incredibly fun to spin nearly three hours of the label's deep offerings of garage, punk, pop, surf and more. Barbara Garcia-Bernardo, Vice President of Get Hip and wife of founder Gregg Kostelich of The Cynics, was even nice enough to do a Q&A with me, which you can find on WMSE's Sonic Diet blog. Theprolific (and incredibly nice) Jack Rice, bassist for the Blow Pops, also stopped by to talk about his band's time on Get Hip, being huge in Finland and the pitfalls of drinking with Paul Collins.
