I hope to never get this far behind on posting again. Teaching six courses this semester means I always have about as many papers to grade as songs on these four playlists.

In recent weeks, I've saluted Jerry Lee Lewis, truck driving music, and baseball, mourned the passing of Solomon Burke and General Johnson, and interviewed Bobby Hussy from Kind Turkey Records and The Hussy. A terrific batch of new music has arrived recently: Drugs Dragons, Jonathan Burks, the City Champs, the Iggy Pop and James Williamson Kill City reissue, the Ugly Beats, Los Explosivos, the Moaners, Daddy Rockin' Strong: A Tribute To Nolan Strong and the Diablos, and a whole bunch of goodies from Norton Records (with more on the way).

I've opened with Halloween themes the past two weeks, and I'm planning an all-Halloween show next week, which features a star-studded lineup. I'm doing a phone interview with Sam Steining from Mondo Topless in advance of the band's Nov. 4 appearance at Frank's Power Plant. The aforementioned Jonathan Burks, who has a release party for Red Pulpy Mess on Oct. 30 at Linneman's Riverwest Inn, will perform live on the show. In addition, I'll be on for six hours straight next week. I'm subbing for Sonia during the Blues Drive, which follows Zero Hour. Tune in!

Dug into the '80s vinyl for a set and played new music from the Murdocks and the Piney Gir Country Roadshow, who battled with the Breakup Society for longest (and best) song title of the show: I'm Better Off Without A Piece Of A Shell Of A Man vs. She Doesn't Know She's Not Supposed to Like Me Yet.

Doubling up on the playlists after finally getting some time to put them together. Corri and I took a trip to Minneapolis last weekend to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary, which I honored with this week's opening theme. The trip to the Twin Cities and the candylands that are The Electric Fetus and Cheapo Discs netted me some nice used LP finds, some of which I played this week and some of which I wish I allowed to play on the air. Lots of new music this week from Norton Records and the brand new single from the Oblivians. I honored the working man and gal with my opening set last week.

What a show. What a weekend. Jack "Oblivian" Yarber and John Paul Keith were kind enough to stop by the station before their gig Friday night at the Bayview Brewhaus. Both talk about touring, recording plans and more. A dynamite show was delivered that night from John Paul during his set with the One Four Fives and Jack O. & the Tennessee Tearjerkers later on. The show's other guest, Brian from Big Rock Candy Mountain, filled in listeners about his must-read blog, revealed some of his 2010 faves, and spun the latest Goner 7" from King Lee and Quintron. Had a blast hanging out with Brian (far left in group photo) and Good John (pictured above with his rare beer-in-hand look) over the weekend - even though they went to a warehouse filled with vinyl goodness without me and returned with this gift for me. Jack Oblivian & The Tennessee Tearjerkers and John Paul Keith & The One Four Fives are tonight at the Bayview Brewhaus as part of WMSE's Radio Summer Camp. I will be helping out at the show along with Good John. And to top it all off, Jack O. is supposed to stopping by the WMSE studio during Zero Hour today for an interview. Late posting the playlist again. Busy, busy, busy, you know. Started with originals of covers I played during the Big Cover Up show, interviewed Brooklyn-by-way-of-Tehran Hypernova, did a one-man band set that might have been just another excuse to play more Hasil Adkins and paid tribute to power pop great Tommy Hoehn.
